Announcement March 2002

Hearing on Gardner Ranch Development on Wheatland in Shadow Hills
Thursday, March 7th at 4 PM

The process is starting over on the Gardner Ranch development on Wheatland in Shadow Hills. Maria Mejia has worked hard to reverse the previous Planning Commission actions back to step 1.

The previous building plan for this property would have created the minimum possible sized equestrian properties, but according to Maria the developer had not taken into account existing easements and slope density which would have resulted in non-equestrian properties. The small plot sizes the developer proposed were not in character or quality to other properties in this area of Shadow Hills.

Maria is asking that letters be sent to the Planning Commission should include some or all of the following "significant impact" issues. The sooner they receive them the better, preferably before this Thursday, March 7th.

The various environmental factors that have a potentially "significant impact" include: aesthetics, agricultural resources, air quality, biological resources, cultural resources, geology/soils, hazards and hazardous materials, hydrology/water quality, land use/planning, mineral resources, noise, population/housing, public services, recreation, transportation/traffic, utilities/service systems, and mandatory findings of significance (including effect on human beings).

The comments should be sent to the Planning Department before March 7. The address to which comments should be mailed is:

Department of City Planning
Subdivision Unit, Room 763
200 North Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012-2601

The fax number is 213-978-1335.

Here is the exact address of the hearing this Thursday at 4pm. It is:

Sherman Oaks Woman's Club
4808 Kester Avenue
Sherman Oaks, CA 91403

Thank you. Maria
