Rose Bowl Riders

This is an important time in the history of Rose Bowl Riders. The planning process for the Hahamongna Annex will mean change.

As concerned members of Rose Bowl Riders, we can choose to influence change, or be influenced by change. I ask those of you who have skills you would like to volunteer on behalf of Rose Bowl Riders to please contact me and let me know your talents and ideas. With change comes opportunity. But only together can we capitalize on the opportunities this planning process affords us.

With this in mind, here is a brief synopsis of the first Pasadena planning meeting for the HWP Annex property.

After initial presentations at the April 6 meeting, there was not much time for public input so an additional meeting was scheduled for May 4. A notice about this meeting will follow this email.

After the two upcoming meetings on May 4 and May 18 to get more community input, there will be a design charrette with 30+ participants. (A charrette is a planning tool to get a group to work intensively together for a short time and come up with a lot of design ideas.)

The charrette participants will be asked to consider design options for three scenarios. Please note the third design scenario especially:

1. Leave existing boundaries/leave the tenants in place as they currently are (that is Rose Bowl Riders, Tom Sawyer Camps, and Mach 1 would pretty much stay where they are.)

2. Make modifications to the existing boundaries. There was no discussion as to how extensive these modifications might be.

3. Current tenants are to remain on the property but the charrette participants are to consider the property as a "clean slate." Any thing is fair game to change on Rose Bowl Riders and the Forest Service areas.

Rosa Laveaga, Arroyo Seco Park Supervisor, stated that the charrette participants were chosen based upon the following criteria: they were Pasadena city representatives, geographic (i.e. reps of neighboring cities), lessees, adjacent landowners, Arroyo Seco stakeholders, had relevant professional skills, and/or group skills. I will send you more detailed information about the charrette in the coming week.
