The Hoof Beat February 2000

January Meeting Minutes
By Julie Morris, Secretary

Meeting called to order by John Barnes at 7:45 PM.

Visitors were Andrea Gutman, Howard Lockwood, Nancy Berns and Wanda Weir, all members of V.H.O.A.

The importance of licensing horses was discussed. If all the horses were licensed, the city would recognize that this is horse country and we are all voters. If they want our vote, and they do, they will listen to us.

Membership as of Jan. 2000 is 41 individuals, 43 families and 8 businesses.

V.H.O.A. has endorsed a letter presented by Elizabeth Lancaster regarding the construction of the very low income housing development proposed at 11681 Foothill Blvd. It states the reasons why this organization does not support this development and requests that V.H.O.A. be permitted to review new drawings and plans after they have been modified to include the bridle trails and accommodations to the horse keeping community as is required by existing regulations and codes.

Copies of the V.H.O.A. by-laws will be sent to all new board members.

Tama reported on the ongoing attempt to understand where our community fits in with regard to the sound-wall along the free-way

Regarding the fire in the early morning hours last month, the cause was not determined. The Equine Emergency Response Team, along with many neighbors, responded. A card, badge or some sort of I.D. was discussed because of the problem getting past the fire fighters guarding the area. Should there be a horse or other animal emergency in the early morning or sometime other than business hours, the phone number of Animal Regulation is 818-756-9323. Also, call Terry Jones. Work: 501-4343 and home: 898-7289.

Linking up with other organizations and the CA E.T.l. Corrals was discussed. In the year 2000, V.H.O.A. feels that it is important that the city and our politicians see the horse community as one united community. We need a candidate who understands our concerns. Then we will support him.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 PM.
