Shadow Hills-- The undeveloped property on Wheatland, near Art Street, was earmarked for 23 homes and 3 streets. Local resident and law student, Maria Mejia has persevered against what she considers to be a development project out of character for the neighborhood. Maria won her second decision in the case on December 10th when the Superior Court ruled in her favor. The Judge’s ruling compels the City to comply with the original Court Order and that "any hearing before PLUM Committee on said Tentative Track presently scheduled for hearing shall be canceled and/or voided with respect to said Tentative Tract.”
Originally, Maria Mejia petitioned because she felt the developer’s plan was flawed and had failed to take into account the slope density and existing easements. The court ruled in her favor that there had been a failure of proper notice for the hearings on the property. Maria expected after winning the first petition that the process would be returned to the Planning Commission public hearing stage. The City of Los Angeles attempted to end run the ruling by proceeding directly to a PLUM hearing. The PLUM hearing would have taken place while District 2 was without City Council member representation. Retired City Councilman Wachs was known for his tireless support of the Master Plan and supporting residents against unchecked development.
