San Dimas-- From dawn to dusk, it requires a dedication that says more to why equestrian communities have a quality of life we wish to preserve. On this Sunday in February, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Posse members trailered their mounts to the Fred Palmer Equestrian Park in Marshall Canyon near Sam Dimas for one of five days of training they will under go this winter from January through March. Posse members volunteer their time for search and rescue, crowd control and security at events, general patrolling of rural areas, and more.
The riders are up at dawn to trailer their mounts and get ready for the 9:00 AM classes on everything from equine first aid to map reading and compasses. The riders and mounts undergo training to ensure that both are under control and ready to go during their public service in the community.
