A rare opportunity to acquire a 260+ acre parcel in the center of the Santa Monica Mountains has been presented to the State Park System. This land must be acquired by the State for public use in order to protect it from private residential development of 30 homes.
The acreage strategically links Peter Strauss Ranch with Malibu Creek State Park and contains segments of the historic Bulldog Motorway/Backbone Trail and the Lakeside Lateral Trail.
Our representatives are considering authorizing State Parks to fund this acquisition. However, Sheila Kuehl, Zev Yaroslavsky and Fran Pavley will only work for this acquisition if they hear from you, your neighbors and fellow trail enthusiasts.
I have attached sample letters to be copied to Kuehl, Yaroslavsky and Pavley that you may send directly or modify as you wish.
Time is of the essence because of the budgeting cycle. If this land is not acquired by this spring, it will most likely be developed. Please visit the www.gotorec.org website or contact Ruth Gerson at ruthgerson@aol.com or (818) 991-1236 for additional information and sample letters.
Email, fax or mail your letters to our legislators urging the preservation of this critical land now.
