Letter: LA County Trails Maintenance

Many of you have contacted this office and indicated concern that trails in the Los Angeles County trail system will be abandoned, fall into disrepair, etc. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to provide you with up-to-date information regarding the County trail system and ease any concerns you may have.

1. ALL trails on the Los Angeles County dedicated trails list will remain open and will be maintained. (Note: Although the trail in Indian Springs/Indian Falls has not yet been dedicated, it is on the County Trails list).

2. Because of budget cuts, the LA County Parks & Recreation "Trails Operations Unit" has been eliminated, effective July 1st. Trails will continue to be maintained by personnel within the Department of Parks and Recreation.

3. Calls regarding maintenance of an LA County trail should be directed to 626/ 575-5756 OR 213/ 738-2961.

4. As the Parks & Recreation Department, and units within the department, reorganize and I receive notification of changes regarding Trails maintenance personnel and phone number changes, I will notify you immediately.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
