The Foothill Trails Neighborhood Council is organizing emergency evacuation plans with volunteers from Lake View Terrace, Shadow Hills, and La Tuna. If you would like to become involved or if you have experience to share, please contact Fritz Bronner at fbronner@earthlink.net.
Current discussions and planning are considering or looking for:
1) Volunteers with trailers certified to do emergency hauling;
2) experienced horse handlers to team up with the haulers;
3) people to assist tagging and documenting rescued animals;
4) people to assist in coordinating activities during an emergency so teams go where they are needed;
5) a possible horse census that would be kept confidential and only used to ensure no animals are left behind during mandatory evacuations; and
6) People willing to volunteer their backyard stables, turnouts, ranches and other facilities for accommodating evacuated animals on a temporary basis are needed.
Tama Lockwood along with many VHOA members have provided teams for emergency evacuation in the past. Today, Tama is helping collect, provide, update, and organize information. We will be publishing the County and City requirements for training and certification.
Watch for future announcements, as more information becomes available, VHOA will summarize and publish the details. If you’re interested in pursuing similar ideas in your neighborhoods, please contact Fritz from the Foothill Trails Neighborhood Council by email at fbronner@earthlink.net or Den Adair from the Sunland Tujunga Neighborhood Council by email at denadair@att.net.
We would like to thank Corral 12 in Sylmar for sharing information about their emergency rescue planning.
