Senior Lead Officer Larry Martinez who is responsible for the areas of Lake View Terrace, Shadow Hills, and Sunland has developed a plan for the a Neighborhood Watch for the Hansen Dam. The Valley Horse Owners Association as well as other have long requested and supported the concept of a neighborhood watch on the trails and Officer Martinez has taken the point to organize it. He has the support form the LAPD Foothill Division Captain Albanese, and Recreation and Parks Superintendent Kevin Regan.
The overall concept of the Hansen Dam Neighborhood Watch is to designate certain days where there are problems on the equestrian trails. On those designated days, one or two LAPD vehicles will be responsible for working with the neighborhood watch. A grid map of the Dam area and trails will be provided so when Watch members see a problem, the LAPD will be able to respond to the problem location in a quick and timely manner. When watch members see a problem, they will be expected to ride to a safe distance and via cell phone call the officers on duty to respond.
