From Office to Cowboy, Just a Few Minutes Away in the East Valley

Shadow Hills--It’s not hours away by car or in another state, but rather, just a few minutes down the road to Gibson Ranch in Shadow Hills where on Wednesday nights you can join in the cowboy sport of Team Penning. Round-em-up and head-em-out, from beginner to experienced rider, join in the fun of separating out the cattle from the herd and get them back to the pen. The team of three riders who does it the fastest wins.

Team Penning is a great activity introducing some of the skills of the cowboy. However, when you don the duds, and leave the suit behind, the experienced cowboy can find Roping on Tuesday and Thursday nights at the Gibson Ranch. After the sun sets, and the dessert cools down in the early evening, this is a great activity for amateur or competitor.

Dale and Heathar Gibson purchased the property in 1998 as an old run down ranch from the 1940’s that was in foreclosure. Since then, they have literally raised the land, added stables, put in a competition size arena, added cattle for the roping, and last year were able to purchase 2 1/2 more acres for additional stables. Situated on the edge of the Hanson Dam, the Gibson Ranch has direct access to the trails into the Dam and Big Tujunga Wash that open into the miles and miles of trails into the Angeles Forest and San Gabriel Mountains.

Few cities in the United States still offer the rural style of living and open spaces while still in the city limits of a major metropolitan area.
