A plan to consolidate all non-LAPD law enforcement officers into the General Services Department will mean that Hansen Dam will lose the dedicated Park Rangers who currently patrol the park and have the detailed knowledge of the trouble spots and are familiar with the park layout. Response will come from the nearest General Service officer or LAPD officer who may only have a generalized knowledge of the park and may have higher priority calls that preclude responding to a park call.
According to meeting reports, "Poor planning and a frenzied timeline for a proposed consolidation of all non-LAPD Security Officers within the City by January 2005 could mean a loss of public safety and services for City of Los Angeles park patrons."
"In a special meeting of the RAP Board of Commissioners Sept 1st 2004, Commissioner Roos said that if there are to be any changes in this plan, they need to come from the LA City Council itself. He encouraged concerned citizens to address their council members ASAP."
